| Wolves
were extirpated from the Northeast by the mid-1800s.
Scientific studies have confirmed that there are more
than 29.722 square miles of suitable wolf habitat throughout
New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. With ample
prey of moose, deer and beaver, wolf recovery in the
Northeast will continue.
Wolves
may be on their way to natural recovery in the near future.
More sightings of possible wild wolves in Maine and the
movement of wolves in southern Quebec have led to this
belief.
Conferences
and meetings have been held that brought together divergent
interests surrounding potential wolf restoration in the
Northeast.
Conservation
Biology Institute published a report, Wolf Reintroduction
Feasibility in the Adirondack Park.
