Here is a list of popular stories about wolves. Each story gives the wolf a bad name. Visit the library and read as many of these stories as you can find. Then describe what's wrong with the way the wolf is portrayed in each story.

STORIES

The Boy Who Cried Wolf (Aesop's Fables)
The Dog and the Wolf (Aesop's Fables)
Little Red Riding Hood (Brothers Grimm)
The Three Little Pigs (Brothers Grimm)
The Wolf and the Fox (Brothers Grimm)
The Wolf and the Seven Little Kids (Brothers Grimm)

Choose one story and retell it. Give the wolf a new personality. Give the story a new twist.

SOUNDS

There is a musical composition about wolves called Peter and the Wolf (Sergey Prokofiev's musical score). Listen to it (available in most libraries) and describe how music, not words, can tell a story. Choose a piece of music to play as background for the wolf s part in the play. Why do you think it's the right music?

CHALLENGE

Talk with friends and discuss what each of these sayings mean.

- wolf in sheep's clothing
- to run with the wolves
- to keep the wolf from the door
- wolfing down your food
- to cry wolf
